[History]: Silvers Rayleigh, One Piece Wiki
[Personality]:
What can be said about Silvers Rayleigh? A lot of things, if we're going to be completely honest. A womanizer, a drunkard, a cheerful old man that could probably kill you and not even bat an eye immediately after. He may even laugh, maybe, depends on his mood really.
We'll get right down to business, Ray-san, as he likes to be referred to, is a highly interesting creature of habit. Once, he was a grand disciplinarian, though that was many years ago and during that time, well, he was kind of a Huge Deal as the first mate of the previous pirate king, Gol D. Roger. He's known as the Dark King, due to being a shady motherfucker with a light hearted attitude, preferring muchly to go through the rest of his life laughing and smiling, flowing with the motion of the ocean until he's shanking a bitch for hurting a pretty woman (See also; Keimi).
Some key things about Ray are his attitude change towards life, which well, as I mentioned above, used to be extremely strict, though he loosened his grip so much after he lost both his best friend and captain in one swoop, not to mention not having annoying ankle biters (looking at you Shanks and Buggy) to discipline. He realized that he didn't need that after everything that happened, so instead he took up a friendly hobby of being a hobo -- wait, that was a terrible joke, let me rephrase. He took up the ideology that he would go wherever the wind would take him, whether it be into debt and selling himself into slavery or helping a little supernova after his crew got fucked up, even taking Monkey D. Luffy under his tutelage after putting up with the last two known assholes with the strawhat (what dicks).
He was, and really, still is prone to irritation at minor stupidity, but well, not as much as he had been in the past (where he took beating the crap out of Shanks and Buggy incredibly serious, which clearly didn't help much. Look at them), which is for the best, considering he spent a year and a half on an isolated island training Monkey D. Luffy.
That aside, Rayleigh is highly against slavery, especially slavery against Fishmen and Mermaids, which is one of his (very) few positive traits. He reacts badly to the idea of mermaids being harmed, as seen by how he reacted to the female Tenryuubito attempting to shoot Keimi. He holds a massive soft spot for them, especially one by the name of Haatchi.
Rayleigh is also one who likes to think about the past, often getting caught up in those memories and loves talking about them. You could say his easy going personality is thanks to the man he had previously called captain and his older age. And maybe a whole lot attributed to the fact that since he wasn’t a pirate, he figured he could attempt a life at peace.
It could be said that Ray took Roger’s death in stride, shedding only a single, manly tear when it was declared that his captain had been finally snuffed out by the marines or we could assume that he was embellishing a little and he took it a little harder, that his attitude change was very much a tribute to the fact that Roger was much the same and had lived such a full life, only to go out in a blaze of glory of his own doing.
It’s shown that he’s known Shakki for a long time, that they’re close, even common-law married despite Rayleigh’s womanizing ways and love for, well, booty of all types. He holds her in high esteem and she is someone important to him, even if he’s chasing skirts and drinking.
He’s incredibly rational, despite everything, a solid foil to the gut-feeling-based mentality that has been shown from Roger’s standpoint. That being said, he is not above diving in without a plan, doing what needs to be done on the fly and without even a single direction telling him what to do. However, it’s clear he does usually have plans upon plans upon plans.
He does have a ruthless side, with it comes a lot of snark. He doesn’t tend to hold back, especially if people who he has taken an interest in are on the line.
Silvers Rayleigh is also undeniably retired from being a pirate, as he claims to Kizaru that he would live a nice, peaceful rest of his life if they just got rid of that damned bounty on his head. Yet, he still takes joy in the idea that he’s a thorn in the World Government’s side, even if it’s a much lesser thorn that’s allowing other lesser thorns to get to the new world.
This jerk is all sorts of amazing, from the start, meeting Roger on his stolen boat and taking the fact that Roger just sort of demanded him to share his boat and become a pirate with him in stride, to the place where he’s a hardass firstmate, making sure that Shanks and Buggy can survive in a world that would no doubt be left behind by Roger when he finally croaked and finally to the place in time where he sheds tears over his Captain’s death, not by the illness that caused him to end his pirate journey, but by a death he chose himself. Silvers Rayleigh has a strength that can only come from the years lived and various experiences that have come along the way.
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Ray’s strengths lie in well, his strength and swordsmanship (and well his Haki, but we’ll talk about that soon), which, admittedly is slowly failing him due to his age. He’s strong enough to be able to swim to the Amazon Lily after his boat crashed, which is in the Calm Belt. Allow me to paint you a brief picture of what to expect in the Calm Belt; Marines fear going through it (they have ways around it, like coating the bottom of their ships with seastone), though it is the fastest way to get to the Grandline, it’s filled with abnormally large seakings (large aquatic dragons). Rayleigh’s ship crashed and he swam the rest of the way in an ocean filled with seakings, which are mostly carnivorous. Well, shit, if that’s not a strength, I’m not sure what is. Rayleigh is also able to go against an Admiral, Kizaru, and hold him off from other people.
Another, much more sneaky strength, is his mind. It’s his greatest asset, he has plans upon plans brewing in his head and they all have plans of their own. He is a sneaky bastard as well, often playing up the fact that he’s ‘just an old man’, even when a giant asked him ‘who are you’. Hell! His plan to get out of debt? Sell himself into slavery and rob his ‘owner blind’.
His weaknesses, however, are much more vicious vices than anything. His two great loves; beautiful women and alcohol. No, just kidding. The actual weaknesses lie in the fact that he is aging, that he’s not as young, as limber and as able as he used to be. For all he’s strong and able to endure most things, he has a much shorter tolerance for such things. He was sweating in the fight with Kizaru, putting in his full effort and only coming out matched with him, his mind isn’t even as sharp as it used to be. He is an old man, no matter how much he wishes he wasn’t.
Allow me to swoop back around to point out one other huge thing that had been included in his strengths, that also points to a gigantic weakness. Rayleigh crashed his boat. He cannot sail at all, it’s conceivable that he will crash any ship he tries to steer no matter where he is. For all of his brains and smarts, he cannot goddamned sail a ship for the life of him. Which is rather hilarious is you think about the fact that this man is a goddamned pirate and for the first little while it was only him and Roger on a tiny boat that Rayleigh stole. I wonder how many ships they went through, hm?
Rayleigh is completely, utterly, blind without his glasses. He will trip, fall, run into things. If these get smashed, the man will be completely unable to defend himself. He relies on having his glasses, rarely taking them off (save for sleeping). You can’t defend against things you’re unable to see, after all.
[Limited Powers]:
Limiting Rayleigh’s three colors of Hakis should actually be a thing here, or else, as I’m sure most people who have seen Rayleigh fight are aware, this man would be completely overpowered.
Haoshoku Haki - He can no longer completely knock out a full room of people without eye contact, or at all. At most, he'll be able to knock out one or two, though he could probably still knock out one specific person in a crowd.
Busoshoku Haki - This will probably remain the same, though will not be as strong as 'armor' for himself and it will take a lot more concentration for him to be able to hit a logia for as long as the fight between Kizaru and Rayleigh had gone on for.
Kenbunshoku Haki - Rayleigh will only be able to sense individuals within a 4-10 foot range and he will need to actually see the opponent to be able to use this to dodge before a strike hits.
He is unable to swim extremely long distances now, I would say about the length of an Ironman Triathlon swimming portion, which is roughly, 1.2M (1.9KM), before getting fatigued.
[Other Important Facts]:
- He is a swordsman.
- He loves all Fishmen/Fishwomen/Mermaids/Mermen.
- He is an alcoholic.
- He is 67.

It seems I've gotten lost or am now drunk enough to be halucinating that I'm in a completely new place.
So, if anyone would mind, care to explain the details of my alcohol induced halucination?
I'm most fascinated by the details of this book and network.
As well, I require the location of the nearest bar and perhaps den-den mushi, I'm sure I could get someone to pick me up if I've managed to actually wander somewhere.
